Asphalt Paving Services for Upscale VA Neighborhoods
Asphalt is a petroleum product and as such, will react to other chemicals it comes in contact with like automotive fluids and deicer chemicals. In addition, Virginia’s hot, humid summers put down an abundance of UV rays that can disrupt the structure of all kinds of materials including asphalt. Shifts in the earth under an asphalt surface can be caused by seasonal freezes and thaws, drainage issues, or invasive tree roots. Changes to the “base” can cause cracking and low spots on the driveway’s surface.
At Standard Paving Inc. we have processes designed to deal with every level of maintenance or repair required.
Maintenance is required every two or three years to protect the asphalt surface. A high-quality sealcoating can go a long way in protecting your asphalt surface and preventing the need for other kinds of repair. Sealcoating provides a smooth, nonporous layer to your drive that resists the affects of UV and chemicals, provides additional waterproofing, prevents oxidation, and fills small cracks. Applying a black sealcoating will also enhance the look of your asphalt driveway giving it a “like new” appearance.
Repaving involves identifying and removing structurally failed asphalt, loose and crumbling asphalt, leveling out the surface, removing any grass that has impinged on the edges, filling cracks and holes, and air blowing the drive to remove dust and debris. When the surface has been prepared, a self-propelled, self-leveling paver controlled by a talented, experienced, operator installs the hot mix asphalt. The paver is followed by a vibrating compactor that creates a hard surface. Edges are hand trimmed and compacted. You will be able to walk on the drive after four hours and park a car on it in twenty-four hours.
Many homes in Willow Springs and Pender have longer driveways. It’s important to note that if the failed asphalt is only in a particular section of the drive, say where a tree root has caused crumbling and surface failure, only the affected area needs to be repaved, not the entire drive.
Replacing asphalt driveways is the most extreme process and is used when a drive has reached the end of its service life or when the problem is with the subbase. We bring in our excavation equipment to remove the existing drive and prepare the subbase by leveling it out and compacting it. The actual paving is the same as the repaving process. The end result is a beautiful, useable, slate black drive that makes an amazing difference in the appearance of the property.
