Asphalt Driveway Paving

- Repairing/Resurfacing Asphalt Driveways. If your driveway has shallow cracks (less than ¼” deep) or low spots where water collects, it can probably be corrected with a resurfacing. Basically, we scrape off a thin layer of asphalt and replace it with new hot asphalt. We compact it to ensure a solid bond and then treat it with a sealant. That’s it. You can park a car on it within 24 hours.
- Repaving an Asphalt Driveway. We do a lot of this type of project mostly because the homeowner has allowed the small cracks to deepen resulting in potholes and crumbling. Northern Virginia winters will cause cracks to expand and contract as water freezes and thaws. Our first step in repaving involves identifying structurally failed asphalt, cutting it out and removing it. Loose and crumbling asphalt is removed. Potholes and cracks are filled followed by an air blown cleaning. Then a self-propelled, self-leveling paver installs a new layer of asphalt. A commercial vibrating compactor is used to bond the asphalt to the subbase and create a hard surface. After the asphalt has had a chance to cure, we apply a slate black sealant.
- Replacing an Asphalt Driveway. Normally, a professionally installed and maintained asphalt driveway will last 20 to 30 years. If your driveway is falling apart with multiple potholes, deep cracks, crumbling edges, and graying out, replacement is the answer. We bring in our excavation equipment and rip out the old driveway. We then level up and compact the subbase in preparation for the asphalt. From that point forward, the process is the same as repaving. When it’s done, you will be amazed at how improved the appearance of your property is. By the way, if you have a concrete driveway that is shot, we can remove it and replace it with a beautiful black asphalt drive.
